Review for All My Love to Long Ago Chapter 5 from Mors on January 11, 2008
Very good story. It's good to see a good author writing a H/G. I haven't had as much fun reading one since Myth&Legend's Cursed. While the HP series tries to mix contemporary settings with Tolkienesque Good/Evil conflicts (and fails spectacularly on some levels - it's not easy writing a dark lord in a world where wizards go to school by train), parts of your story has a much more "epic" feel. You read High Fantasy, don't you... your style of writing those myst-creature things practically scream that. While JK tried for a dark lord in pretty much a modern world, you're going for the old demon/shadow route. It's good, I don't think there're many HP fics like that. While parts of your story didn't mix very well together for me (I have this problem whenever a book tries to get out of a genre, it's probably not your fault), the scenes were very well executed. The prophey scene was excellent (reminds me of those mad frothing-at-the-mouth seers I used to read about), and the idea that some other creature can access human minds and send messages is (while not novel) is appropriately creepy. Keep up the suspense. Keep up the tension. .... oh, forgot. Update.
