Review for Dagger and Rose Chapter 17 from nuhuh on May 12, 2008
This is one impressive piece of work. I started and finished it all today. And I think for the first time I will be reading a fanfic again. I want to say much, but I think I will review you on my reread. There is definitely a maturity of writing here that you don't see in amateur works. I think you struck the balance between having a subplot yet relying heavily on character development. The length of your fic served you well. Extending it might have over stretched the limits of what you have revealed so far. This was an excellent place to stop. I definitely think you should continue in a sequel. More comments to come on the reread. And let me know if you have any other projects lined up.

I'm planning a sequel. I've a couple WiP that have to be cleared off my desk first, but I've been convinced that the material justifies one. Thanks so much for taking the time to read and review. -Brian (Pers)

I love this story and I think it definitly deserves a sequel. I'd be so sad if it ended now.

definitely needs a sequel!!
Review for Dagger and Rose Chapter 17 from Jay-F on May 08, 2008
This was an excellent story and if you decide to write a sequel I am sure it too will be excellent. However be careful not to write a sequel just because people want you to or because you think you should, carefully decide to or not to based on whether or not you have enough content to make another story in this universe. If you decide that you do then write away and i will gladly anticipate the result, if you don’t then write something else. Jay

You'd be mad not to do the sequel. As it is, I really can't see this fic standing alone, not without more in the future. It's brilliant, don't get me wrong, but it's screaming for more. Looking forward to it.
Review for Dagger and Rose Chapter 17 from Rain on May 07, 2008
It seems odd not to have a sequel. Or rather.. I hope you continue this. It was exceptional, and definitely kept me interested. I'd like to read more about it. That and you've changed things, especially with Voldemort's rebirth. Gives me all sorts of questions on how it'll pan out with these changes. Hard to come to a mental conclusion, you know? Anyway, Thank you for the wonderful time. I've enjoyed putting off a research paper to read this. xP I look forward to reading more of your works!

Rain, thanks for the kind words. I think I will continue--but first, a short, humor novella. (I've decided I'm going to write the "final word on Harry/Ginny Soul Bond Fics"). And no, I'm not insane.... I think there are several good threads that have been laid for the sequel. The challenge will be sorting them to make a compelling story. Thank again for taking the time to review. Best wishes, -Brian

Some honor duel, with runes sapping Harry's strength. Excellent update, all in all. I really liked Fleur and Krum's tangential involvement, as well as Percy's. Looking forward to more.

"The two land in the Great Hall and Harry falls awkwardly onto his hands and knees." Psych! Man did you have me fooled with the previous cliffhanger. Now, you have me on the edge of my seat with the new one. I'm thinking that Ron's and Percy's hatred/dislike of Harry made them easy to control in actions against Harry. It'll be interesting to see the Weasleys' reactions to the (presumably involuntary) treachery of the two boys. *Excellent* work.

Ugh you would give us this same cliffie. For shame. I really liked this update, particularly Dumbledore's rather long reflection. It shows that he isn't quite the ideal master. Looking forward to more.

Great story. I wonder why Lady Delacour is trying to make an alliance with Harry given that she thought previously thought that he was useless. Perhaps now that she is "damaged goods" all she is good for is second tier candidates? Still, with the controller glyph still on her, I can hardly think that she can be considered a good match for Harry. Dumbledoor's "high road" approach of ignoring lies in the press doesn't seem to play well in the real world. Dumbledoor's real approach seems to be to outlive his detractors. It seems like a good press secretary would not do Harry any harm. Please continue.

5/5. I generally hate romance, in any context, but this is done tastefully, without melodrama. I like the 'Romeo and Juliet' angle. Runescrive = pwnsome. Harry-not-susceptible-to-charm is done with minimal cliches. Politics is iffy, but certainly not bad. The tense makes it seem like movie, and picturing it comes naturally. PS Why, at the top, does it say 'Full Review - Chapter 14: Snape?'

I enjoyed the dance of words at the party, well done a good filler update.

Very good update, I can't help but wonder about Dumbledore after this chapter. Still, there can be no doubt that he cares deeply for Harry. Looking forward to more.

Outstanding chapter, one of the best of this story, to be sure. Looking forward to more.

The retaliation runes are an interesting concept, makes it hard to kill someone in the heat of battle becasue one needs time to properly defend oneself. Dumbledore's comments about the press were interesting, however it seems to me that one should at least once issue a statement of innocence so that later you can say "not only did you aslander me you did so after i professed my innocence". Thanks for writing, Jay

"Please bear with me--I ask that before abandoning the story, you read for one chapter more." I would be surprised at anyone who could abandon this story after reading this far. It's an enthralling story, much richer and more complex than I expected from the summary. I am intrigued by your characterization of Harry and Fleur. On the other hand, the Weasleys - Ron and Ginny - seem off, in the way that HP-HG shippers normally see the two. In canon, Ginny is not a fangirl (no more than Harry is of Cho), and Ron is not ruled by jealousy (one two-month episode is not the equivalent of a life-long pattern). Nonetheless, I'm interested enough in how you're using the Weasleys that this is a minor consideration. There seem to be quite a few hanging threads to address (or not, as is often the case in real life). Did Hermione and Ginny actually run Fleur off from visiting Harry in the Hospital Wing? What will Harry do if he finds this out, especially since he doesn't appreciate Ginny's "attention"? Why hasn't Harry spoken up regarding what happened to Fleur? Does he not care for her enough to check on her (before the duel, of course)? I have lots of other questions, etc., but I'll have to save them for another time. It's a good work. Thanks for writing and sharing it.

Ha! Bloody cowards can't take a story this intense. I loved every second of this chapter, particularly Harry's sacrifice at the end to learn the truth. I think the "closure" you mentioned might just be the understatement of the century, young though it may be. I'm a little concerned for Harry, though, if Cedric, Fleur, and presumably Krum gave him so much trouble in the duels. Then again, those rules were pretty stringent. Looking forward to more.

Finally, an author willing to show how vicious villains can be. It's not nearly common enough in fanfiction, but the gritty, brutal honesty of this chapter was enough. Looking forward to more.

I can't belive you killed Luna. That's beyond cruel. It's like taking an axe to a small childs bunny rabbit on their birthday. At Christmas

Harry the man-whore? Should make for an interesting next chapter. Luna's death is much sadder than most in fanfiction, it's always sad when the innocent suffer like that. Still a great update, though. Her death probably shows Fleur that Robert's group is willing to kill anyone in their way to get to Harry, which should help her eventually denounce them. Looking forward to more.

You are writing Alus to be as dumb as J.K. did, love the lake very well done. My question is why did they only stun and capture him, why not kill him then? It was incontinent with the other attacks on Harry, I look forward to more.

I think "blow shit up" sounds good, though I can't help but wonder how Harry manages that without casting a spell. You really aren't pulling any punches on the poor kid for the tasks, are you? He missed one and now he's spell-less for the next one. Great work, of course. Looking forward to more.
